By Bill, posted

Prospective candidates often have many questions about the L3 AET Course before enrollment. This is understandable as often people need to ascertain whether or not the course is suitable for them and weigh up their investment in the training.

This blog is designed to answer the most frequently asked questions that we receive over the phone and through email.

How are you able to fit the program into three days?

The format of the course is over three consecutive days. It is important not to get to drawn in to how many days the course is as you will find a wide spectrum of different options in the marketplace. It is more important to make sure that you are getting quality training that will enable you to complete the qualification as smoothly as possible.

The three day format enables us to deliver the taught theory and combine this with lesson planning in day one and two. Your teacher will issue templates to enable candidates to make a start on the written assignments. Day three is micro teach day for you and your peers. Candidates are fully prepared and have support in place to finish off their assignments at home / work once the three days are completed.

What will this qualification allow me to do?

The nationally accredited qualification allows successful candidates to deliver unsupervised lessons / classes in the post 16 education sector. It is now a government requirement that any trainer / teacher holds a nationally recognised teaching qualification before commencing their work. Current trainers also need to fall in line with this requirement to meet the standards of the industry.

Who is your awarding body?

The internationally recognised Highfield Awarding Body of Compliance (HABC). Running the course through HABC means your training is Ofqual regulated and leads to a nationally accredited certificate.

It is important not to be drawn into thinking that one awarding body is superior to another. This can be a common selling trick. In theory Ofqual regulated courses are all equal and it is the quality / reputation of the company delivering the training which ultimately matters.

How can I progress with this qualification?

Candidates can progress onto the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or straight through to the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. Both of these require teaching hours to be logged / observed. Both of these are recognised by colleges and could be a springboard for a new career.

What work is required in order to complete the course?

There are three written assignments based on the taught theory and the practical micro teach. each assignment is roughly 1000 words and they can be started on the course itself.

Candidates are also required to plan their own 15 minute lesson during this time, and whilst at home. Each candidate delivers their lesson on the final day and peer observation is carried out.
