About this course

Part 1 starts with a 90-minute e-learning module, completed on the e-learning for healthcare platform. This module is mandatory for all learners and must be completed before moving on to Part 2.

Part 2 of the training course requires learners to attend a one-hour webinar session hosted on MS Teams or Zoom. A facilitator and two co-trainers will host this part of the training. One is living with a learning disability, and the other with autism.

Expect to cover the following topics as part of the Tier 1 course and much more:

  • Oliver’s story
  • Health inequalities
  • Communication skills
  • Reasonable adjustments
  • Social misconceptions

Why this course?

Tier 1 Oliver McGowan Training is for anyone who has indirect contact with people living with autism or a learning disability in their own role. This could include any of the following examples and many more:

  • Medical receptionists
  • Porters and drivers
  • Security staff
  • IT support

The idea is to give learners an invaluable insight into what life is like for those living with autism or a learning disability when it comes to engaging in healthcare or social care settings.

The aim is for this insight to raise awareness of the individual needs in case a non-patient-facing staff member ever needs to help in an unplanned event/crisis.
