Oliver McGowan Training Tier 2

Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training is designed for those in patient-facing roles in healthcare and social care settings. Its primary aim is to directly help health/social care workers prevent deaths and to offer person-centred care to those living with a learning disability or autism.

It combines an e-learning module with a one-day classroom attendance session. Upon successful completion, learners are awarded an NHS England and Oliver’s Story-endorsed digital certificate.

About this course

Oliver McGowan tier 2 training can help raise awareness about autiism/learnign disabilities, but its primary focus is to help improve healthcare for these individuals. The initial e-learning module introduces the learner to Oliver’s story and the practical use of communication skills and reasonable adjustments. 

The classroom day builds on this knowledge and introduces the learner to a live facilitator, autism co-trainer and learning disability co-trainer. This can help provide an invaluable insight into what life is like within health care settings for these individuals, and will cover the following topics and much more:

  • Co-occurring health conditions 
  • What the law states
  • Practical adjustments for stressful environments
  • Restraint reduction 
  • Over-medication of neurodivergent people

Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training can potentially help prevent deaths within health and social care settings. Oliver’s story highlights concerns about some of the topics raised in this course, and how everyone can work together with a unified, practice-based approach to improve patient-led care. 

This training is mandatory for all patient-facing health and social care staff who may need the knowledge and practical skills to support patients in a time of crisis and/or medical emergency. This covers the following groups and many more:

  • Doctors and GP’s
  • Nurses and midwives
  • Clinical psychologists 
  • Healthcare assistants 
  • Social workers
  • Safeguarding leads

Price based on 30 students
Upon enrolment, staff members receive login details to access the e-learning platform. From there, they will complete a 90-minute e-learning module on a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

Next, select the dates that work best for your staff members to complete the one-day classroom training session. Train Aid will send a facilitator, autism co-trainer, and learning disability co-trainer to your premises to deliver the nationally recognised classroom session to up to 30 of your staff members. The classroom day generally takes seven hours, including breaks.
